Report Management
[This is a Base Component and is present in all configurations of Galvin].
While many merchandising information systems produce mountains of paper, Galvin is paperless.
Instead of printing reports on paper we store them in our database in a special report image file. Users access this file using the on-line aspects of the system, and view the reports much in the same manner as they would view them on paper.
The on-line viewing tool provides for easy navigation through the report where you can go to a particular section [like a Department or Vendor], or you can scan the report on any value. You can also print [immediately, on a nearby laser printer] any page, section or the entire report.
The advantages of this approach are enormous:
No paper is used, saving money and trees.
Users have access to their reports as soon as they have finished running on the system. They don't wait for them to be printed, distributed, or lost!
Reports can be accessed by everyone [who has the authority] and instead of receiving, say, just my section of a report, I can view the entire report.
Reports can be accessed from anywhere by people who are on the road, at trade shows or visiting suppliers, and they can get that key piece of information they need, easily!
Reports can be stored on the system for as long as you need to keep them. It is not unusual to see key reports kept for several years, and they are at the fingertips of anyone who needs them, at anytime. So no more lost, dog-eared, coffee-stained history!
Because nothing is printed on paper, the cost of running seldom used reports on a frequent basis is minimal. This means that the users can have continuous access to up-to-date information instead of using some report that is run, say, once a month.
